Eight Days By Superyacht In The British Virgin Islands

The Caribbean islands known collectively as the British Virgin Islands provide some of the best sailing, snorkeling and beaching facilities in the world. The perfect place to explore by superyacht, they combine the Caribbean’s world-renowned beachscapes with fascinating cultural attractions and some fabulously luxurious cocktail bars and eateries.

Of the 50 plus islands and cays that make up the British Virgin Islands, only around 15 are inhabited, meaning that sailing around the area can provide some incredible solitude in some of the most beautiful locations on the planet. With their tropical climate and low rainfall, the islands make for a fabulous year-round destination. Curated by Captain Sputh of MY Starfire, a 178′ luxury yacht for charter, these eight days by superyacht in the British Virgin Islands will leave you wanting more.

Day One:  Beef Island, Tortola

To begin a week in the British Virgin Islands fly in to Beef Island, which is connected by bridge to the largest and most populous island of Tortola. Admire your yacht bobbing on the impossibly blue sea below you as you come in to land, allowing the incredible scenery to wash over you and set the scene for the week ahead.

Explore the northern coast of Tortola for a day of beautiful beaches or, if you’re feeling active, engage in water sports ranging from water-skiing to scuba diving.

Day Two: Jost Van Dyke

Though only a few hundred people live on Jost Van Dyke, the island’s Great Harbor is one of the busiest ports in the area and the island itself is famous for its fabulous year-round parties. Be sure to check out the Soggy Dollar Bar near White Bay, where tradition requires drinkers to anchor off shore and then swim in for a drink, paying for their cocktails with soggy notes.

One Love Bar and Foxy’s vie for the prestige of producing the best BBQ ribs in the British Virgin Islands, so be sure to check out one or the other while on Jost Van Dyke, in addition to spending time lazing the hours away on the island’s incredible beaches.

Day Three: Norman Island

Steeped in tales of piratical infamy and hidden treasure, Norman Island is an essential stopping point. Anchor in the beautiful natural harbour known as The Bight and be sure to explore the three water-level caves towards its western edge, particularly if you are a keen snorkelling fan.

Make the infamous Willie T Bar one of your stopping points while on Norman Island if you fancy dancing until dawn, or go treasure hunting in and around the island’s caves if the possibility of tracking down ancient pirate gold is more to your fancy.

Day Four: Peter Island

Spend a morning on Peter Island exploring the many hiking and biking trails, admiring the island’s natural beauty and its fascinating tropical vegetation. Head to Deadman’s Bay for the afternoon to enjoy a mile of white sand, palm trees and gently lapping azure waves. If you happen to fancy a night on dry land instead of on your yacht, the Peter Island Resort is one of the world’s most prestigious and luxurious hotels.

The Baths, on the southern end of the island of Virgin Gorda, are one of the most fascinating geological places in the world. The huge piles of volcanic boulders create a number of scenic grottoes that make for a perfect day of exploring and splashing around in the delightfully warm water.
