The French island of Corsica offers some of the world’s most delightful bathing spots, with sheltered bays, clear water and rocks dotted about beneath the surface that team with fish and make for fantastic snorkeling. Corsica’s beaches are regularly voted among the best in the world. Ask your superyacht captain to sail around the island until you spot a deserted one that you like the look of, then simply drop anchor and enjoy!
Located in the Mediterranean and actually closer to Italy than to France, Corsica provides the perfect base for exploring both the French and Italian coastlines on a superyacht charter.
Day One: Nice
A favorite with luxury travelers for centuries, Nice offers natural beauty, thriving city life and a delightfully mild climate. The city is famous for its squares, so aim to do Nice as the French do and enjoy cafe culture at its very best. The city’s main square, Place Masséna is lit up beautifully at night, so be sure to linger there as the sun sinks in order to enjoy it at its best.
Day Two: Monaco
The most expensive place on earth to buy property, according to Knight Frank’s 2014 Wealth Report, Monaco simply oozes luxury. This is the French Riviera at its very best. Monaco is all about the nightlife, so relax in the city during the day, ready for a spectacularly indulgent evening of dinner at the three Michelin starred Le Louis XV followed by a tour of Le Grand Casino de Monte Carlo.
Day Three: Calvi
The citadel of Calvi, on the northwest coast of Corsica, rises mysteriously from the morning mist as you near the island, making an early approach to the town essential. Regardless of your religious persuasion, be sure to visit the iconic Chapelle de Notre Dame de la Serra to admire the incredible statue of Jesus perched upon the top of the ancient rock.
Day Four: Ajaccio
Ajaccio, on Corisca’s western coast, is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. Visit his house – Casa Bounaparte – and admire the many monuments erected to him around the city. Be sure to visit the market while Ajaccio as well, admiring the picture-perfect colors of the fruit stalls in the morning sunlight.
Day Five: Bonifacio
Head around to the southern tip of the island next to visit Corsica’s charming commune of Bonifacio. Make the most of the idyllic beaches for a lazy day of soaking up the sun. If you time your trip correctly, you can take in the French leg of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, which is held in Bonifacio, but don’t be tempted to join in – it’s not a sport for amateurs!
Day Six: La Maddalena
Between Corsica and Sardinia, in the Straits of Bonifacio, sits the stunning island of La Maddalena. Ancient fortifications await those looking to spend the day rambling in search of history and a visit to the picturesque Old Town is an absolute must. La Maddalena also features a pretty port and some Caribbean-esque beaches, so be sure to plan your day to make the most of the island’s numerous attractions.
Day Seven: Porto-Vecchio
Back on Corsica, Porto-Vecchio is another place with a distinctly Caribbean feel to its white sands and clear waters. Dedicate the final day of your charter itinerary to snorkeling around the rocks that charmingly dot the water, topping up your tan and feasting on Corsica’s seafood-rich diet.
Day Eight: Porto-Vecchio
After a peaceful morning finishing off your book in your luxurious stateroom, enjoy one more cup of freshly brewed coffee while taking a stroll towards the sundeck. Take a plunge in the Jacuzzi as you admire the lovely Porto-Vecchio view.
